Dark Phoenix, also known as X-Men: Dark Phoenix, is a 2019 American drama action dark superhero film directed by Simon Kinberg. It's the seventh installment of the X-Men franchise, a sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse and is based on Marvel Dark Phoenix Saga.
Why it's great[]
- Sophie Turner's performance as Jean Grey is pretty good and she makes the character likeable and complex
- The dark tone is a really brave move from the director
- It's actually more faithful to the original comic storyline than X-Men: The Last Stand.
- Magneto's evolution has arrived at its peak in this movie.
- Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Alexandra Shipp, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoilt did a great performance.
- Great soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer.
- The action scenes are well executed
- Charles Xavier and Jean Grey's relationship is powerful and emotional
- There are tense and scary moments which is really good.
- Magneto's motivation was really understandable and is incredible to see Beast angry.
- The ending is heartwarming.
- The ending with Jean Grey flying in the space is a great set-up for a sequel, if there will be one.
Bad Qualities[]
- Jessica Chastain's presence is really annoying as she don't have any place in the X-Men franchise. Her performance was also awful.
- Quicksilver had 5 minutes of screentime before getting injured and appearing only at the epilogue for a cameo.
- Mystique's death, despite emotional, was too quick and she died too early.
- It doesn't resolve the Magneto and Quicksilver's storyline.
