Why It's Great[]

  1. The animation is incredible and still holds up really well, even after all the years since its release; the only thing just as gorgeous are the backgrounds in which it was filmed, making this one of Disney's most ambitious projects
  2. The opening is especially memorable, and stands out as one of Disney's best
  3. A spectacular soundtrack, with the piece "The Egg Travels" being especially iconic
  4. It does not shy away from any of the harsher moments of the journey, such as the deaths of multiple and/or major characters, as well as the carnivore attacks. Along with Atlantis and Treasure Planet, it has some of the largest death counts of any animated Disney film
  5. Pretty likable characters, such as Plio, Eema, Baylene, Yar, and Bruton, who gets a pretty good story arc as a tragic hero
  6. The carnivores are the most memorable characters because of how ruthless they are
  7. Instead of using dinosaurs people are familiar with, such as T.rex and Triceratops, this film uses species never seen as often in popular culture at the time, such as Carnotaurus, Pachyrhinosaurus, Styracosaurus, Stygimoloch, just to name a few. What this movie does for some of these species is pretty much like what Jurassic Park did for Velociraptor.
  8. It spawned a spectacular ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom
