Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a 2019 film that was release in May 31, 2019. It is a sequel to Godzilla (2014). A sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong was released on March 26, 2021.

Reasons why it's the Greatest American Kaiju Film ever made.[]

  1. Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah, three iconic kaiju, make a return after a long absence.
  2. Amazing CGI for the Kaiju, with well-done redesigns for Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah that fit well within the MonsterVerse. Godzilla's design in particular has some improvements as it looks similar to his 2014 design, but adds some elements from the Toho version.
  3. The monsters (including Godzilla), have more screen-time in this film.
  4. Well-done acting, with Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn and Sally Hawkins reprising their roles as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa, Admiral William Stenz and Dr. Vivienne Graham respectively.
  5. It introduces Millie Bobby Brown's character Madison Russell.
  6. The plot is flawless and perfectly sets up Godzilla vs Kong.
  7. Awesome fights with the monsters.
  8. Ghidorah being an ancient alien seeking to transform the Earth to his own liking is interesting.
  9. Mark Russel has a tragic backstory, where he lost his son Andrew in the events of the previous film.
  10. Mothra's death scene was very touching.
  11. The characters get decent character development.
  12. Well-composed soundtrack, with some themes from Akira Ifikube's scores for Toho's Kaiju films.
  13. The excellent villain Alan Jonah survives the film leaving the door open for his return. His future role is set up in a post credits scene.
  14. Emma Russell is an excellent complex character.
  15. It features a cover of the classic song Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult in the credits.

Bad Qualities[]

  1. Ford Brody (the main protagonist of the previous film) isn't in this film nor isn't mentioned at all.
