Imaginum

Imaginum is a Mexican animated sci-fi-comedy film, produced by Ánima Estudios and released in theaters on August 19, 2005.

It features the voices of Eugenio Derbez and Ilse. The film took a total of 18 months to develop, in contrast to other animated films, which take up to 40 months to develop.

Plot[]

Yxxxxx is an intergalactic parasite with grandiose delusions, and is highly dangerous to other beings. However, he is currently confined in a mental space. He decides to force three other inmates, who are not exactly an example of prudence, to escape the mental asylum with him. He wants to involve them in his evil plans.

Why it's great[]

  1. Unlike the studio's previous film, this one shows a breakthrough in terms of 3D technology by showing backgrounds, effects and/or vehicles.
  2. Dante was a great main character.
  3. The development of the sibling relationship between Dante and Rocco shows a great evolution in spite of its humorous situations.
  4. Many references to the pop culture of that year are present like: The Beatles, Star Wars, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Marvin the Martian, Jaime Maussan, Hasbro's Tonka Toys, etc.
  5. This film is like a trip to the past, as it also works as a retro story of the 2000s thanks to the soundtrack that was used, partly because of the songs that were fashionable in those years (Ocean Avenue, Plástico and Walkie Talkie Man).
  6. It is the third Mexican animated film in the science fiction genre (after Los Supersabios and Katy Meets the Aliens).
  7. Sovos, Rovor and Tovot can be annoying characters at the beginning, but as the story progresses they give their respective evolution to each other.
  8. Yxxxxx is a comical villain thanks to his voice actor (Eugenio Derbez) who gives him that touch of.
  9. The final battle in the planetarium would be the most exciting part of the whole story.
  10. During the credits, you can see bloopers that the characters themselves committed while making the film, something that in Pixar movies was popularized (like in A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc.).
  11. The film enjoyed some publicity at the time of its release, with commercials, mobile phone cards and even the soundtrack being released.
