Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch is a 2005 direct-to-video animated science fiction comedy-drama film produced by the Australian office of DisneyToon Studios. The film takes place between the events of the 2002 Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film Lilo & Stitch and the 2003 direct-to-video film Stitch! The Movie.

Plot[]

A malfunction threatens to destroy Stitch and his friendship with Lilo.

Why It's Great[]

  1. It keeps the focus on both Lilo and Stitch, instead of just giving Stitch the spotlight. It also feels more like a direct continuation of the original film and its themes instead of just a spinoff.
  2. The animation is an improvement from the first film.
  3. Great voice acting, even if having Dakota Fanning voicing Lilo was pointless, she, at least, did a passable job.
  4. The characters are still likable. Lilo is well-meaning and sweet, Stitch is lovable as always and Nani's personality is less distorted than it is in the series.
  5. Good soundtrack.
  6. It retains the humor and charm of the original film.
  7. Strong messages of friendship.
  8. The scene where Lilo attacks Mertle for saying she will never be like her mom with Stitch taking pictures is very funny and satisfying.
  9. It's clever to not have a villain in this movie, with the only threat being the stress of Stitch's problems which causes problems for his friendship with Lilo.
  10. The other girls (except Mertle) are nicer to Lilo than they were in the first movie, which is nice to see.
  11. The scene where Lilo and Nani connect over their memories over their mother after having a small fight is very touching.
  12. Stitch's death in the climax is a very emotional scene, even if it's a fake-out.

Bad Qualities[]

  1. It feels more like a TV special rather than an actual sequel since it is only 68 minutes long.
  2. Padding: The scenes where Pleakley "helps" David get together with Nani again weren't really unnecessary and are just there to fill up the film's short runtime.
  3. Most of the characters are inconsistent and out of character:
    • Dr. Jumba Jookiba has gone from a mad scientist to a dumb moron in general.
    • Wendy Pleakley became David's guide to winning his love interest, Nani. Not to mention he became a dumb moron as well.
    • Nani Pelekai doesn't have any connection to any events as she's just there to be there.
    • David Kawena became an extremely nervous wimp who tries to speak with Nani but to fill up the film's running time, it always fails until the end.
  4. The movie is very mean-spirited. When Stitch fails Lilo's rehearsal, Lilo becomes a complete jerk to Stitch until she realizes Stitch has a glitch.
  5. It can sometimes get WAY too scary for children, especially the scenes with Stitch's glitch wreaking havoc.
  6. Lilo was voiced by Dakota Fanning (the voice of the titular character from Coraline), which would've been fine if she was actually voiced in the next and final sequel, Leroy and Stitch, but her original voice actress (Daveigh Chase) later reprises her role, which made it entirely pointless to change her voice actress.
  7. The Elvis Presley references get a bit overused.
  8. Some of the humor can be weak, such as Lilo claiming her butt is sitting where Elvis' butt was sitting on a bench.

Reception[]

On critical response aggregation website, Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 40%, and an average score of 5.5 out of 10 based on 10 reviews.
