Megamind is a 2010 3D computer-animated superhero comedy film directed by Tom McGrath, produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Plot[]
Though he is the most-brilliant supervillain the world has known, Megamind is the least-successful. Thwarted time and again by heroic Metro Man, Megamind is more surprised than anyone when he actually manages to defeat his longtime enemy. But without Metro Man, Megamind has no purpose in life, so he creates a new opponent, who quickly decides that it's more fun to be a bad guy than a hero.
Why It's Great[]
- Megamind is pretty even handed. When characters in the movie are bad, cowardly, or act in ways that are beneath them, it's for an understandable human reason.
- The movie makes the argument that if people could reach a more mutual understanding of each other, then we might be able to start to eliminate much (but not all) of the evil and misery in this world.
- Great animation, especially for 2010.
- A right mixture of humor, seriousness and a little suspense with a strong romantic subplot.
- The movie vividly captures many awkward and tragic human situations in a way only animation can.
- Some of the great parts of the movie are present in the first few minutes of the film, where we see how Megamind came to be a villain.
- The movie is peppered with cool references to various comics, politics, and films with plenty of humor.
- Some superb action and flying scenes that are spectacular to watch, especially in 3D.
- A catchy soundtrack with copyrighted songs during montages like "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra and "I'm Bad" by the late Michael Jackson and each song fits into it's scene.
- Fantastic performances from Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill.
- A great and rather surprising plot twist where we found at that Metro-Man is actually still alive.
- A funny running gag where Megamind mispronounces some words most notable is when he mispronounces halo as holo.
Bad Qualities[]
- A lot of people complain that the film is a little similar to Despicable Me which came out the same year and four months before Megamind's release as it revolves around a bad guy who later becomes good. (Which also caused this movie to flop.)
- Roxanne Ritchi, a badass female character, turns into a damsel-in-distress near the third act.
- The opening scene showing Megamind falling is a little confusing because later on it happens different than established.
Box Office[]
Despite receiving positive reaction, the movie only grossed $321 million dollars worldwide at the box office, and is the lowest grossing CGI movie by Dreamworks Animation, making it a box-office bomb.
