Transformers is a 2007 American science fiction action film based on the Transformers toy line. The film, which combines computer animation with live-action filming, was directed by Michael Bay, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer. It was produced by Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto, and is the first installment in the live-action Transformers film series.
Why It's Great[]
- A lot of really awesome action scenes, camera and effect wise.
- Impressive CGI effects, especially for the Autobots and the Decepticons.
- Some of the voice actors reprise their roles from the 80s Transformers series, especially Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
- Epic soundtrack composed by Steve Jablonsky, especially the end credits music ("What I've Done" by Linkin Park).
- Decent acting and performances, especially from Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky and John Turturro as Seymour Simmons.
- When Jazz died, the movie, unlike the later films, actually treated him like a character rather then forgetting him and continue the story as if he never existed.
- Some faithfulness to the source material, such as the "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" line.
- The Decepticons are portrayed in the is film as menacing just like the original cartoon series.
- At least the story makes sense and is pretty decent for the most part.
- Starscream was portrayed pretty well in this film until he was back to being portrayed as a coward again.
Bad Qualities[]
- Some of the sequels are awful.
- Even though it is meant to be a Transformers film, despite being a Transformers film, both the Autobots and the Decepticons almost didn't get a lot of screen time. This film focuses mostly on the humans.
- The Autobots & the Decepticons radical redesigns drew a divided response from fans.
- The movie does portrays most of the Decepticons as mindless-animals that are out for destruction, unlike in the original series.
